I once hit a deer at 2 am

That ran out behind a rock. I was traveling at exactly the speed limit. It went through my windshield and put my brother in the hospital for 2 days with a broken collar bone and arm. I had maybe a millisecond to decide if I’d hit it or spin the car and kill us. Why should I have to pay for that deer?

Help me know how I could have reasonably prevented that.
