In Alaska they give the meat from roadkill to families in need. Good program.
There is actually a list. Hitting a bear/moose/ or other large animal doesn't hurt the meat at all and actually provides for many meals to the poor and needy.

What would you think of fining drivers for hitting wildlife on roads?

Sounds like another bad, unnecessary government regulation.

That's dumb. You can hit an animal at nearly any speed.

TIC?
neboutefan
4/25/19 9:24am
It has to be.. right?
ChiCityCoug
4/25/19 9:26am
It's not TIC. I seriously wondered about it this morning and wanted opinions.

You must live in the city
TheLost

Nope.

Hitting a moose already costs more than hitting a deer or a raccoon

4/25/19 9:27am
Please tell us more. Did you recently hit an animal? Or do you lie awake at night wondering how to fix such?
Hank Rearden
4/25/19 9:27am
Neither. But I am concerned about wildlife being killed by vehicles.
mango
4/25/19 9:32am
Not TIC, really?

4/25/19 9:33am
It’s life. There’s no way to prevent it
cougarmanguy
4/25/19 9:34am
That's absurd.
mango
4/25/19 9:40am
No, your suggestion, my friend, is patently absurd
cougarmanguy
4/25/19 9:42am
I once hit a deer at 2 am
cougarmanguy
4/25/19 9:44am
I'm not saying you could have prevented it. I would have done the same.
mango
4/25/19 9:57am
You can’t be fined for something that’s not your fault and not avoidable
cougarmanguy
4/25/19 9:58am
Why would I be traveling less than the posted speed limit?
cougarmanguy
4/25/19 10:00am
I wouldn't be. I'm usually going a few miles over the speed limit.
mango
4/25/19 10:14am
You don’t have responsibility for the animal
cougarmanguy
4/25/19 10:20am
You called the deer a public resource. Care to elaborate what you mean?
Star-Lord
4/25/19 10:29am
How is it not a public resource? Wildlife resources produce millions in revenue
mango
4/25/19 10:37am
I don’t think you realize that the government calculates
cougarmanguy
4/25/19 10:39am
Actually, wildlife resources don't produce a single dime. It's the users, you

There should be privatized deer farms. You kill a deer, you buy a new one.

I didn't know we were worried about declining deer population.

Maybe if you make them eat it raw on the spot.

How long were you awake trying to think up a dumb gov't regulation? I hate to disappoint you but we have people who

coug almighty

Now you're talking.
mango
4/25/19 10:04am
No.. The lives of the people in the car are more important than the animal
TheLost
4/25/19 9:35am
Exactly
cougarmanguy
4/25/19 9:36am
I absolutely agree with this. I would hit the deer every time.
mango
4/25/19 9:44am
Why?
cougarmanguy
4/25/19 9:45am
Cause he thinks dead wildlife are the by-product of unsafe driving. In reality
coug almighty
4/25/19 9:51am
Definitely
cougarmanguy
4/25/19 9:52am
Then we should be able to sue the DNR for damages when the deer is at fault

Even as a wildlife geek, I don't think it's tenable to enforce this.

I think we have too many silly laws and regulations. No need for more.

I'd say it's more claptrap than drivel.
ochobeeguy
4/25/19 9:53am
What if they charge the deer to cross? Like a toll system?
coug almighty
4/25/19 9:53am
Give the deer tickets and fine them for jaywalking.
Cosmodiar
4/25/19 9:55am
But this is the best kind of drivel. Don't leave!

I think this idea makes as much sense as fining the dead animal
D.T. Survivor

This is a really bad idea. Wildlife jump out in front of vehicles sometimes. It's not usually a problem of caution.

Depends whether the deer's organs can be harvested and donated

Why are people so anxious to give the government more oversight and Money
Cougarclaw
4/25/19 9:57am
Aren't we always better off with more laws?
crazY
4/25/19 10:11am
We already give them oversight and money to manage our wildlife.
mango
4/25/19 10:16am
You're still arguing this thing? I would have thought that once it became clear how dumb the idea was, you'd drop it.

Cachanilla83
