I had a religion class from a professor who gave us closed-book take home tests
The tests were mostly random trivia memorization that would be hard to know. If you did too well on the test he knew you cheated (because you took the test at home and could have opened your scriptures). Although I did have a few reasonably good religion classes at BYU there were others that were less good. That particular class/teacher has skewed my memories of BYU religion classes toward the negative even 30+ years later.
