They felt like the teacher was grading their testimony or something like that. I think that comes from unclear expectations. Whatever BYU does they should be clear on what the expectations are. If the expectations are that they are easy classes that are just there to inspire and give a break from the rigor of the other classes...do that and do that well. If the expectations are to educate about details in a more scholarly way and with testing and work and reading and writing...then do that and to that well but be clear so the people that come into it know what they are getting in to. People get offended more easily when it comes to the topic of religion. They can fail a math class and it doesn't offend them, but then they can fail a religion class and want to be angry at the church and not go to church or transfer schools. Not sure why people suddenly get so temperamental when it comes to religion but they do.
What I wanted was something that was hard enough that it made me accountable. Accountable to come to class and accountable to read the assignments and accountable to participate. But i would never ask that it be as hard as the weed out chem 105/106/ochem or math 112 classes just for the sake of being hard.
