They were indeed taught like an academic class. An easy GE academic class, but an academic class nonetheless.

From the Department of Religious Studiese Q&A:

" In addition, because the accreditation of many programs on the campus depends upon a solid and rigorous curriculum, Religion courses are expected to be as academically challenging as they are spiritually stimulating."
