Call it revisionist history if you want, but if you really consider the circumstances its clear what went wrong. It is pretty obvious that the offensive staff year 1 & 2 were underqualified and overwhelmed.
Ty Detmer had never coached at any level aside from 2A Texas High school football, same with Mahe and Empey - Cahoon had exprience but never performed well. Steve Clark was the lone coach on the entire offensive staff with college football coaching experience.
Combine that with a rookie HC, DC, and rash of injuries - its easy to explain why there was a steep dropoff in production. It will take time to right the ship, and I don't think anyone wants to as bad as Kalani does.
