I have no doubt they know which option, even after factoring in ESPN renegotiated deal, makes the most. Bottom line, it comes down to the bottom line. IF BYU is talking with the AAC then it means there is the possibility BYU might get more money; if there are no discussions whatsoever, then I think that answers the money question. My guess is BYU re-ups its ESPN deal to end around the time the TV deals end with the major conferences (2023-2024?). At that point both BYU and ESPN will know BYUs long term future with respect to P5 membership (or the future landscape of college football) and will plan accordingly. If BYU does go to the AAC or back to the MWC, it probably wouldn't be until then. Honestly, I don't think the AAC will expand since it no longer needs 12 for a championship game. Until there are rumblings of discussions I think it is silly to debate this issue.
