I read somewhere that death isn’t usually an issue, but an increased risk of kidney disease... like 3% of donors
However, being a former kidney donor bumps you up near the top of the waiting list, and supposedly bumps you’re immediate family members up as well (meaning if you donated a kidney to save someone else and then your brother needs a kidney, he gets priority since you already have yours away and can’t donate to him).

It’s something I’d consider if it really came down to it.
