Every team has 'nothing to play for' after 2 conference losses, which is about
the middle of the season for half the teams. All but about 20 teams are out of contention for the playoffs before the season starts and 2/3 of the teams seldom win a conference championship. Yet the teams still play and the fans still attend or watch. Most of us just enjoy watching the game and rooting for our team, even if the team sometimes loses.
