I'm pro-Indy, but this argument is not the one to hang your hat on. It's false.
In 2019 alone:
- Utah played in the Pac-12 championship game with 3 conference losses
- Texas played in the Big 12 championship game with 2 conference losses
- Northwestern played in the Big 10 championship game with 2 conference losses
- Pitt played in the ACC championship game with 2 conference losses
- Memphis played in the AAC championship game with 3 conference losses (8 of the 12 AAC teams still had a legitimate shot at the championship game with two weeks left in the season)
- Northern Illinois played in the MAC championship game with 2 conference losses
- Louisiana played in the Sun Belt Championship game with 3 conference losses

So 7 of the 10 conference championships featured at least one team with two conference losses. 3 of the 10 featured a team with 3 losses, which means that their entire division had a mathematical chance at the championship game as late as mid-November.
