There’s only two things that are real in the world of fitness. There’s adding/losing muscle, and there’s adding/losing fat.
If you add muscle without ever losing fat, you’ll look a little bulkier. If you add both you’ll obviously be bulkier. If you add fat but lose muscle you won’t be bulkier but you’ll look worse. It sounds like what you want is to add muscle (which is done by lifting) and lose some fat (which is done by implementing a good diet).
I say this to make the point that there’s no such thing as lifting to be toned or lifting for recomp. There’s just lifting to add muscle. And then you may/may not choose to add a diet to that to control which way your “bulkiness” goes.
Long story short: no matter what you do, there’s really just the one way to lift for aesthetics... you lift to add muscle mass.
