distracted driver is larger (by a factor of 10, 20, more?) than the number of trips with an impaired driver. Yet the number of crashes (and fatalities) is lower. So, it would then seem misleading to say that texting is as dangerous as drunk driving.
If we did a similar analysis with speeding, what would we find? I bet we’d see lots of crashes and fatalities connected to speeding. Yet nobody is arguing that exceeding the speed limit should be dealt with as harshly as texting/drinking.
I’m certainly not arguing that texting isn’t a problem worth addressing. I’m just trying to interpret the data you shared.
