I didn't study 18 hours a day. But I hit 12-13 hours pretty often actually.
Some days I hit the 14 hour threshold.
While the adage "Cs get degrees" is true, Cs do not get you into medical school. While there is a definite dislike of the "spoiled" kids who had help with school, most of the boys and girls I know who had help with school $$$ now are MORE successful in life IMO. Again, just my 2 cents. I'm not a middle aged (old?) man, so it's hard to see it from your perspective perhaps.

I learned a trade at BYU. I highly recommend that. You can sign up for any of the shops at BYU physical facilities

My father, who was a VP of HR for a major soft drink company, also refused to hire anyone with just school experience.
