Especially in black swan events like this, the enthusiasm of the moment tends to over-inflate experts' opinions of themselves. This bias leads to either 1) staunch dogmatism/lack of open-mindedness, and/or, 2) predictions which tend to the extreme ends of possible scenarios. Show me one epidemiologist who isn't secretly or not-so-secretly loving this situation.
