I addressed this in my post above. Fauci, unlike most CBers, actually knows how
to interpret the models correctly, and he did so. The scientists who designed the models purposely calculated a massive range of *possible* outcomes - with 2.2 million deaths in the U.S. being at the absolute extreme high end of the scale. Right from the start, it was explicitly stated by the researchers themselves - and explicitly repeated by Dr. Fauci - that such a scenario was extremely unlikely.

Media outlets like Fox News - and apparently a whole bunch of CBers - immediately began ranting and raving and foaming at the mouth about the 2.2 million figure. On the other hand, people who actually understand science didn't even bat an eye, because they understood that the model was purposely designed to calculate a massive range of *possible* outcomes. The model never claimed to make any ironclad guarantees about anything (and appropriately so).
