Great thoughts, again. I agree with most of what you're saying.
I openly acknowledge that there were flaws in the early models - and that current models continue to have some flaws as well. And certainly the way the numbers have been reported has been confusing for lots of people. That said, I grow weary of people on this board continually claiming that the "experts" guaranteed multiple millions of deaths from COVID here in the U.S., when that is simply not the case. Similar to the "vaccines cause autism" arguments - they are incorrect. And I will always take issue with people spreading misinformation.

As far as my criticism of this Knut Wittkowski guy, my personal opinion is that you lose the "expert" title when you refuse to admit that you were wrong. He preached that we shouldn't do anything about the COVID pandemic because there would only be 6,000 fatalities in the U.S. - and he mocked the epidemiologists who said otherwise. And we have undeniable real-world evidence that he was wrong. I understand that he has done a lot of work in epidemiology, but that's all the more reason for him to know better.

For comparison, at a certain time in human history, the leading medical experts in the world believed in miasma as the cause of disease. But then germ theory came along. And I would argue that the people who kept clinging to the miasma theory, and especially anyone who openly ridiculed germ theory even as the evidence mounted in its favor, should no longer be considered an expert.

Part of being an expert is learning new things and recognizing when you're wrong. This guy appears to fall short of that standard.
