If penalties are getting longer for some, it's due to the number of moderations in the last 30 days
That's the primary thing we look at when determining whether to do a penalty or warning, assuming it's not something egregious like you mentioned.
As mods, we only see a small percentage of the board. There's a lot we miss. The penalties are to encourage people to NOT post stuff that doesn't belong on the board. If we always just do warnings, then there's really no reason not to just post whatever you want.
