To be clear I think there are valid reasons to prefer Indy.
If you like the variety and, generally speaking, more P5-heavy schedules that are possible through independence you may prefer it to having a conference to play in.
I personally dislike the apathy that inevitably comes from losing 3-4 games early in the season, having a November schedule full of bad teams in a half empty LES, and knowing that whether you go 11-1 or 6-6 you will still be playing in the same third tier bowl game.
