Years unlike anytime in our economy. I am in Utah. Granted, things are a little different here. In the lead up to 2007, prevailing starting wages in the temp staffing world for light production , clerical, and other similarly situated jobs was $9.50-$10.00/ hour. Pre-pandemic those wages were $12-$13/ hour. The primary driver for this was a shortage of labor. More folks were working than before. In order to get workers, you had to hire them away from other employers. It was an employee’s market. They saw wages rise to entice them to change employers. Higher wage employees made gains as well, not quite as large, but those gains were close to 10 percent. The big beneficiaries there were IT pros and Electrical Engineers. There still isn’t enough talent in those two fields to fill the available openings in Utah.
