Now we have an entire
party that openly embraces Communism. Honestly. Go up to any lefty you know and ask them "What are the downsides to Communism?" I guarantee they could not come up with 3 reasons not to embrace it.
Then ask them "Why would Communism work better for America than capitalism?" And I guarantee you they'll come up with more than 3 reasons to support it.
You can even do this with the LDS ilk and the results will be the same--except you'll get a little more "Jesus was a socialist" thrown at you. It's intellectually embarrassing and frightening, but that's what millions believe now and it's thanks to the rhetoric of an entire party and media machine since 2008.
