My family lives out that way in a couple of locations and it seems that over the years, the narrative has changed. My dad, who lives in Olympus boundaries, has seen his home more than double in value. There is zero inventory in that area with no 'for sale' signs. There is evidence of tear downs and rebuilds throughout. Reading about Olympus on Niche reveals every 3rd or 4th review talking about the elite groups and rich kids.
If you head further south, suddenly Draper has become the hot new thing. It seems like there is an influx of new money and Corner Canyon is rated as a top high school with 250 kids in their football program. If you type in Draper into CB, you get a bunch of posts on fancy cars, fake women, some shady gym, dudes with flat brimmed hats, and a general vibe that everyone is a punk.
There are still posts about the best places to live in the region and these areas still get some love.
So what's the real scoop out there? Are the negative reviews from angry jealous people from Tooele? Has Oly become the land of the rich? Is Draper really a collection of image-hungry young wealthy people? How about the land between and around to include Skyline, Alta, Brighton, etc. I haven't lived in the area in over 15 years and it seems things have changed tremendously.
