I'd much rather live in a neighborhood of million dollar homes that look like more normal homes than a bunch of gaudy McMansions that cost less than that. Also, people who don't care about having a shiny fancy-looking house are going to me less concerned about keeping up with the Joneses. Also, probably stable families, likely have college (and, in many cases, graduate) degrees. So your kids will grow up with other kids whose parents probably value hard work and education.
