I can relate. There was a Christmas gift signup for a family in "need," and the
stuff they put on their list was (1) way more expensive/better than anything I got as a kid and (2) more expensive/better than anything we got our kids this year. And we do not skimp for Christmas (at least in my mind). We ended up giving a gift card and taking the other money we planned to use for others for Christmas and donating it.
