I'm removed enough from the situation to admit that the P5 affiliation put Utah football on a different plane than BYU. It gives them advantages and opportunities BYU simply doesn't have. For football, BYU is a second-class citizen, while Utah isn't (probably more accurate to say Utah is a 3rd-class citizen considering all the stratification within the P5, whereas BYU is more 4th or 5th class, but let's keep it simple).
I think that's also led to an increase in Utah fans and, from what I've seen, a more insufferable or antagonistic attitude from some of them. It's much easier to be humble when it's the 80s and Utah always loses to BYU, or the 90s and Utah is starting to compete or even 2000-2010 when Utah has stepped slightly ahead but is still new to it and competitive peers within the conference. So if that's happened more, then that sucks and is inappropriate.
