My two cents.
I'm in the military and so I live in an area with a large military population. Most military families will only spend 3-4 years here. For some it might make sense to buy, live in the home for a few years, and hope to turn a small profit when they get orders and sell in a few years. For others, the peace of mind that comes from renting a home for a few years knowing that they won't be on the hook for selling it again when orders drop and they're forced to move is enough. And that's just the military. I'm sure there are endless examples from countless fields where the same kind of scenario might play out. So to tell families that want to rent a single family home that they can't doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
