I played in a slow pitch softball tourney once that only let the losing team bat
I am not saying the MLB should do this but Hear me out on this…

- team A scores 2 runs in Top of 1
- team B gets no runs and three outs
- team B bats in the 2nd inning and gets 0R 3 outs
- Team B batts in the 3rd and gets 3 runs
- team A (now losing 2-3) bats in the 2nd inning and scores 2 runs
- team B (now down 4-3) bats in the 4th and gets 0 runs
- team B bats in the 5th and gets 0 runs
- team B bats in the 6th and gets 1 run
- team A bats in the 3rd (it’s tied 4-4) and scores 1 run and walks off the game in the 3rd inning. They don’t need the 4-6innings.

It’s sounds complicated but isn’t really. We already don’t give the home team their half inning if they are ahead. This just deletes additional half innings if they aren’t needed.

The games “felt” closer because the winning team wasn’t batting and almost every game ends in a walk off.
