I had a similar experience with someone on my sons youth soccer team. The father of another boy playing soccer saw that I had a BYU hat on and asked me if I knew who Kresimir Cosic was. We are both too young to have seen him play but I told him that my Dad was at BYU when he played and told me of what a great player he was.
This man had moved to the States from Croatia some years ago and had played semi pro basketball there. He told me how Cosic was the idol of all the basketball playing kids he knew when he was growing up. He was the Croatian Michael Jordan. Even years later he recognized BYU as being the school of his boyhood hero. We had a nice 30 minute conversation about his life and making connections because of Cosic.
Even 40 years since his last time playing at BYU he influence is still being felt. Its amazing the impact and recognition BYU has from someone that played so long ago.
