I didn't buy it either--at least not what you claim I bought

We bought our first TV--a 13" B&W--around 1980 for around $60 and upgraded to a $160 19" color TV around 1990. We've bought a total of four TVs in 42 years of marriage and never spent anywhere close to $500 on any of them.

Your analysis is way, way, way off for my household.
