Through community college for generals, more lucrative majors, spending less on living expenses, etc, but yes, education expenses have outpaced things as well.
It’s one of the reasons I’ve worked with my kids to find a talent that they could hone to get scholarships through. My oldest has had her school paid for because of the work she put in to become an elite viola musician. My youngest will likely follow in her sisters footsteps and have her school entirely paid for because of her ability at playing cello. They’ve put in the work, though. 1.5 hours a day of practice for years. It has and will pay off for them.
My oldest also knows that when she graduates, if she isn’t able to get a position with an orchestra, she will get a job working for a company outside of her fields of study.
So while I certainly agree that costs have gone up, there are ways to get around some of those costs or to help minimize them.
