But it is it because of the athletic connection or the AAU relationship network?
I think “academics” is conflated with “research” and the latter term is often used as an excuse for exclusion. Sure the conference connection could have started the initial network relationship but I don’t see how or where it is logical to assume those relationships terminate if a school moves conferences. I just don’t see Stanford telling UA or UW “we won’t work with you anymore” because they change conferences. I just think Altimore’s argument is non-sequitur because it assumes such professional relationships cease or disappear because of something unrelated (change of athletic affiliation). Something that facilitates an introduction to a relationship doesn’t necessarily terminate such relationship. My work relationship with a colleague doesn’t change if I move buildings.
