I’m genuinely confused as to why so many people in our fanbase:

1- Seem to care so much about what’s going on with Utah, their conference, and how much media right $$$ they can or can’t get.

…and

2- Are openly rooting for the demise of the P12 when that would only seem to increase the likelihood that Utah ends up in the B12.

I think it’s fair to say that both BYU and Utah would rather chew off their own left feet than end up in the same conference again. I also think now that we have a place at the B12 table, BYU is more than ok with the idea of playing Utah as little as humanly possible in football going forward.

The bottom line is, that if the P12 goes away completely, there will be schools finding a new home in the B12 as a result. Now, we can have the debate of whether Utah would or would not be one of those schools, but whether BYU fans want to admit it or not, they’re not going to have the sway to keep Utah out of the B12 if the conference powers that be see value in it. It’s a slap in the face if BYU can’t keep Utah out of the Big12 and it would be an even bigger insult if they actually helped them get in.

My preferred endgame is: The PAC signs a media rights deal that allows them to limp along but doesn’t approach the type of $$$ BYU pulls in from the B12. It kills any threat of Utah joining our conference, weakens them financially, and allows BYU to outdistance them across the board.

Let Utah live in their world while we live in ours. With any luck, we don’t see them in our conference and if we get really lucky, don’t even have to see them on our schedule in the near future.
