a non-traditional passer coming off an ACL tear is going to be just as effective seems like a big question mark. Who plays QB if he goes down? Or if he is less willing of a runner? What is that drop-off?
Also...QB wasn't their only weakness on O last season (from what I could tell). Quick glance says they had no First Team All Conference players in 2023. They were 98th in offensive production (consequently only 1 spot ahead of BYU's terrible offense...).
In 2022, Cam Rising was not 1st Team All Conference; or 2nd Team; or even Honorable Mention. This was after being 1st Team in 2021. He's generally listed as the 4th to 5th best QB in the Big 12 in 2024.
I just feel like it's lazy to crown them champs b/c they have a good D and a QB that was on 2 conference championship teams is back. I'm not saying they shouldn't be, or even that they won't win it. But Cam Rising is a good to very good QB. They are acting like an elite QB is coming back. CB goes way overboard on this topic for sure...I just think a lot of people assume that Cam Rising is a great QB and so Utah will automatically be great next year. They certainly have the schedule to do it, if Cam is healthy and is probably a little better than he has been. What he did in 2022 may not be enough to win Big 12...I think he's gonna have to be better than that.
