I loved NY City in the mid-90s & planned on moving there. But, after just a week
it felt too dirty, too cold and got dark too quickly.
I also was way too much into mountain biking and rock climbing. I asked a guy with a nice mountain bike where to find some trails, he said to bike Central Park "off road" or take a 3 hour train ride to Jersey. That (and the crappy apartments) changed my mind.
