Worked there 5 years. Lived outside the city on the North Shore. Loved it.

Only people with whom I associated that struggled were of a particular background from a particular geography and had basically made up their minds not to like it upon arrival. Most of my circle of friends from outside the area loved it there.

Then there’s the typical Cougarboarder’s visit: Head straight to Bourbon St, accidentally on purpose take in a view of the posters outside the strip clubs and whatever else at which you can get a peak, and then come on here to decry the city’s iniquity.

We experienced terrific neighbors, a great ward, a distinct, interesting and welcoming culture, many of my most favorite coworkers in a 3 decades career…True southern hospitality. Outstanding mix of music, celebrations, food, families, and football.

Sounds like you hit the French quarter. Historic and interesting if you know where to go, and some of the best restaurants anywhere. But not a crime if the quarter didn’t float your boat. Locals largely stay away.

If you took in the garden district and The World War II museum – – the number one rated “site“ in the city—and you didn’t like them then I don’t know what to tell you.

Really an awful take in my mind, but to each their own, I suppose. We’re going back with some friends in the days leading up to the Baylor game before we head to Waco together. Looking forward to the trip.
