I get this, but I think Naples is an acquired taste. The first time I went, I
was ambivalent. But after a few trips it really grew on me.
The Napoletani are really very warm and fun to be around once you get to know them. Now understanding Neopolitani when they speak, that's a rough stretch of road.
The reality is the once you go south of Rome, Italy is a vastly different country than Rome and points north. Southern Italy is not for everyone, but I love it, and I spent over three years living in the north.
