Alan Schaefer Walk-on
I hope Iman23’s daughter can overcome, figure out, or successfully navigate
through her depression. So young, too young to have to deal with that. Breaks my heart. I hope it’s only temporary and not chronic.

Depression is something that is so unfair and hard to to treat/help others with. Especially if you can’t relate from your own experience. From my limited experience annd observation, everyone is also so different in the way to best tackle it. For some, I think the best way is to have to learn, as difficult as it is, how to recognize, assess, and cope with it yourself. For others, therapy is best. For others, meds can really help, as long as the parents and the sufferer know and realize that there isn’t and never will be a “magic pill” that will make it so you are never sad.

My kids are just slightly younger than Iman’s but I’m already worrying/bracing for them to have some level of depression at some point in their teens or 20’s. Being a parent is so intense, at least for me and I think most parents, as far as the level of fixed focus on just wanting to help, educate, prepare, and love your kids. Knowing that sickness, bad times, sad times, disappointment, failure, etc is all a very important part of the journey. And you just so had want to almost telepathically impart the knowledge you have learned from all of this crazy life to them, so they can know and navigate it better. But then you also know that’s not how it works. So we just have to pray, hope, set the example, and love as much as we can.

It’s like a quote from my favorite movie: “Unless you love, your life will just flash by.”

Anyways, I’m ranting bad. This thread though just hit me because I truly feel for Iman and his Daughters situation so much. And because this thread is awesome as far as insights, thoughts, etc. I literally feel like I’ve learned twice as much about this topic just from reading this thread. It’s stuff like this that makes CB so special.
