So the idea is to ignore or burry them?
Look, while that sentiment is nice from a job security standpoint it’s just not correct. Feelings come from somewhere. We have a river of them at any given moment. If they’re making their way into our awareness it’s because something is going on. There’s been a lot of great advice already about things to do if it’s simply an issue of more activity or boredom or need for vitamin D etc. But if none of that works then something deeper is going on and you can’t just stop thing about it. Practicing being aware of our feelings is a kind to practicing balance and hand coordination and everything else that we love about sports on this site. Intrusive thoughts related to sadness or anxiety aren’t something you teach yourself. That’s just not true. Therapy, any decent reputable one anyway teaches you to be in the moment and take things as they are. It helps you focus on the good in life and deal with the bad by leading its sting when you put in proper perspective. This is no special thing here. That’s why the relationship with the person ends up being the most important part. I’m not trying to win here. It just scares me to death when people seem to say that the solution is to not focus on negative feelings, like the people who see me haven’t tried that kids or adults. The making everyone think that they have depression/anxiety isn’t because of therapy. It’s social media society and pop psych nonsense. Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water here. It may not and should not be for everyone but when it works. It does.
