In order to match Harvey's numbers after his junior year, Jamaal would also
need about 600 yards receiving. So, he needs roughly 1,400 yards rushing and 600 yards receiving to match what Harvey did. Of course, I don't think it's as simple as just looking at the numbers. I'm assuming that Jamaal won't quite put up the numbers to reach Harvey this year and I don't think that is definitive as to who is better.

There are a number of factors that must be looked at, including the type of offense being run, other rb's on the team, etc. I wholeheartedly agree Harvey played with better lines, but Harvey also played in an offense that was built to pass more than run. Jamaal is clearly playing in an offense that is built to run to set up the pass (likewise, J.J.'s best year in 2010 was a year where the coaching staff just decided that we were going to pound the ball).

Also, Harvey played with Tonga and Vakapuna who were both better than any backs that Diliuigi or Williams has had to compete with (Alisa showed some promise, but hasn't been healthy since Jamaal got here). I also believe that the running ability of Taysom has been huge in helping Jamaal have better ypc in the read-option.

Harvey also played his last two years with a ton of injuries, including a really bad ankle.

All that being said, I love both Harvey and Jamaal. I think to this point that Harvey and Staley were the best backs ever at BYU and that by the end of his career Jamaal will be one of the top 3, as well. I think he's good enough that it will be arguable whether he finishes 1, 2 or 3.
