Well one thing that would help you ease the pain is to not blame it 100% on Jamaal. If that play is something that completely changes your attitude about him and you only use that one play to compare him to someone who got over 40 receptions per season twice, well you might be biased a little because of bitterness.
Williams was the #2 receiver as a freshman. It's not his fault Anae and Hill didn't pass to him more out of the backfield because it would have been great for them. He should have easily had 400 yds receiving this last year.
But you still know that it was wrong to use one play to compare two players. You're right though. Nobody quite as good has his freshman year. Though Curtis Brown and JJ were both very good catching out of the backfield. And so is Jamaal. BYU has had their #2 man in receiving yards be a RB a number of times and that list includes Brown, JJ, and Williams. We've had some great receivers made out of backs and I hope they continue to take advantage of it. Hopefully Anae smartens up.
