RE: You forget that Jamaal may not have even played much as a freshman if Alisa
That's part of my point. I was first making a point that Unga had other backs he had to compete against to get playing time (outside of his first 4 games, Jamaal did not). While Tonga and Vakapuna were fullbacks they were guys that the offensive staff was very high on in terms of not only blocking, but carrying the ball.

Having no competition for carries has definitely helped pad Jamaal's stats. I know it could be argued that Taysom took a bunch away from Jamaal, but I would argue that Taysom's explosiveness has aided Jamaal's ypc with respect to the read-option.

TBH, I don't think this aspect is really all that important in argument as to who is the better rb (pretty sure it consisted of one sentence in my original post). My main point in even mentioning it was that there are so many factors in who is the better rb, that it is way too simplistic to say Jamaal has a better ypc, therefore he is the better back.

My personal opinion is still that Unga is the better back (my honest opinion is that Unga is the most complete rb in BYU history - blocking, catching, running, durability, ball security, etc.). However, I love Jamaal and recognize that he is a special back that hasn't come around often for BYU. If he continues on his trajectory he'll have a place right with Staley and Unga at the top.
