Almost everyone got in back in the late 60's early 70's
I had a 2.8 and NO service/leadership activities in HS and I got in (1974) no problem. Also back then, RMs got in no questions asked - it was a perk the church tossed at them.

Things have certainly changed. When I take friends/guests up to campus I mention to them every kid we walk past is the 'cream of the crop' nowadays in terms of GPA, ACT scores, service/extracurricular activities etc. It is kind of amazing to wrap your head around this.
