The Prop 8 fight was a major mistake IMO..
But, I don't think that was what kept BYU out.. But maybe it was enough to push it over the edge. It's not like the church has ever been a leader in social movements (blacks, women), but the timing of Prop 8 did negative coincide with the conference realignment..
The bigger issue IMO was the academic freedom angle.. But who knows.
