I don't know, but this seems a little LDS apologetic
I'm pretty sure the church's goal was to stop gay marriage, and they originally won, but now it's seen as unconstitutional. Amongst some groups they were seen as upholding good christian values, and then amongst others they were seen as bigoted people pushing their religious values down the throats of people who weren't of their religion. In the end it probably hurt the churches image more than it helped it.
