Tennesee was on top and took a dive. Texas was on top and took a dive. USC was
on top and took a dive. Florida was on top and took a dive. Yes they all prospered long enough to win a national championship, but corruption of either players or coaches has been a big issue in a lot of programs falling from the top of the heap. So long term? They seem to get away with it for a few years.
Additionally you can go a lot further back and show teams that cheated and prospered short term.
