Legal guarding position requires shoulders and knees to be close to vertical.
If you stick your hands/feet beyond this or your knees aren't fairly close to where your shoulders are, you would probably get called for a hold/block because you are impeding the other player without being in legal guarding position. When I ref I call it every time. When I coach I teach my players to recognize that and attack it when they see it.
