When in your lifetime have things been different at BYU?
And by the way, you stated earlier we have had 5 straight disappointing seasons. Didn't we end up 10-3 and ranked in one of those?

Yes...we lost to Memphis...or as you stated MEMPHIS...who was ranked...and BSU...who was ranked...does it matter that they are "mid-majors?" They were good teams. We also beat every P-5 team we played. We went in to Austin and destroyed Texas.

Last year was disappointing. The primary disappointment was that Hill got hurt. We were chugging along in the top 25, talked about as a possible playoff spoiler, and Hill was being looked at for the Heisman. Those are the breaks. Literally. Other than BSU...and BSU is debateable...I don't think we lose a game if Hill doesn't get hurt. But those are the breaks. Oklahoma had it happen when we knocked Sam Bradford out. In fact, it pretty much happens to every team that loses an elite QB.

What sort of miracles do you expect out of a team in a frigid, geographically remote part of the country with a Taliban-like Honor Code and stringent academics that the players are actually expected to do? We punch above our weight. You ask anyone outside the blind on this board and they will tell you BYU overachieves with the challenges it faces.

If you have been in a time warp since the early 80's, you might want to wake up and smell reality. BYU should strive to compete for a National Championship and top 10 rankings. Every 128 teams in FBS should. But that doesn't mean it won't take an awful lot of fortunate bounces to get there based on the fact that BYU is in Provo...and is Mormon...and is weird...and is cold. It has a lot of great selling points too...but there is a reason with the exception of OSU, National Championships are won in warm climates...it's because people like to be warm. Provo isn't...and you can't enjoy the ladies nor have a cold brew either...and BYU makes you write your own essays.

Expectation management might be in order. BYU can compete...and winning 70% of the time under the current coach shows that...and finishing ranked in 5 of 10 seasons...and with wins against Texas and Oklahoma and UCLA 59-0...but that doesn't mean it's not hard. And it certainly doesn't mean BYU doesn't have to overachieve to do that.
