attorney at an immigration firm. The starting salary was either $30,000 or $35,000 and the job posting said "no benefits." Here are the numbers for average law school debt and percent of students graduating with debt for the two AZ schools:
Arizona State University (O'Connor)
Tempe, AZ
$106,426
55%
University of Arizona (Rogers)
Tucson, AZ
$100,902
69%
Obviously there are ways to make more money as a lawyer but in government work, public interest work, and some other areas, lawyers can earn relatively modest salaries. And lawyers tend to carry much more student debt than teachers.
And I'm not disagreeing with you, just pointing out starting a career is hard for many people even in the quote unquote silver spoon professions like the law. I think teachers work really hard and we should pay them more but perhaps tenure shouldn't be so easy to get.
