Redshirts are a pretty big committment for someone this raw.
I'd be tempted to play him this season just to see if he has the will to learn the game and the will to play every snap at full speed/effort. From there the coaching staff will have to make a judgement call on the value of his scholarship and the amount of coaching he will require versus the potential value he can contribute on the field as a Junior or Senior.
