MWC is the better short term option.
Being a big fish in a small pond is the best situation in college football. Independence is better in the long run, but it's hard to believe BYU wouldn't have been in a couple BCS games by now and have a few more top #25 rankings. It's much easier to put together one or two good performances a year after your confidence is soaring when you beat up on a slew of cream puffs.
