Why not?
Just looked at the schedules for the 10 years before independence. BYU had home and home games with Washington, Florida State, UCLA, Arizona, Stanford, and Notre Dame. They also had a neutral game against #3 Oklahoma. BYU has always scheduled P5 teams to fill in some of the OOC. No reason they couldn't continue doing that as a member of the MW.
